Jesus! by the holy silence of Thy Infancy,
Jesus! who preserved silence in the midst of the false accusations and the unjust judgments of men,
Jesus! who loved to pray during the silent watches of the night,
Jesus! who spent forty days in silence and retreat,
Have mercy on me.

Jesus! who preserved strict silence during Thy Sacred Passion in the midst of the most atrocious calumnies,
Jesus! who suffered in silence the pains of Thy terrible Agony,
Jesus! whom I have so often offended by my immortified tongue, especially by excusing everything in myself, and censuring and putting an unfavourable construction, not only upon the least defects, but likewise even upon the best actions of my neighbour,
Have mercy on me.

Holy Virgin, Mother of Jesus, who heard in silence, and treasured up in your heart all that concerned Jesus, your only treasure,
Holy Joseph! guardian of Incarnate Wisdom, and spouse to the Queen of all Saints, obtain for me of the Great Master of Interior Life, an eminent spirit of silence, prayer, and holy recollection,
All ye holy Fathers of the Desert,
Pray for me.

St. John Baptist, and all holy religious souls who observed so well the holy law of silence, make intercession for me. Amen.
