Old books still have work to do.
Manualist Press publishes neglected Catholic books meant to be read slowly, marked up, returned to, and put into practice.
The problem
Many valuable older books are technically available but not meaningfully accessible. They may exist only as damaged originals, image scans, error-filled OCR, or poorly formatted reprints. A file in an archive is not yet a usable book.
Our response
Manualist Press selects works worth returning to circulation, restores their structure, checks their text, and gives them a durable editorial and typographic form. Each edition should be clear about where it came from and what was done to prepare it.
The name
Who are the manualists?
Manualists are Catholics who believe old books still have work to do.
The name expresses the press’s commitment to clarity, usefulness, precision, fidelity, and serious Catholic formation. Not every book we publish is a theological manual. The point is practical: can this book still help someone understand, practice, or hand on the Faith?
A fuller historical account will be added only after its sources have been approved and entered in the site’s citation system.
What we publish
Our interests include Catholic spiritual life, theology and doctrine, moral and pastoral theology, family life and vocation, catechesis, liturgy and the sacraments, saints and biography, prayer, and devotion.
What readers may expect
- We do not silently rewrite an author’s argument.
- We do not obscure the identity of the source edition.
- We do not invent endorsements or present historical approvals as current approvals.
- We do not treat legibility as an afterthought.
