St. Andrew Christmas Novena
Begins Monday 30 November and ends Thursday 24 December, the eve of Christmas.
From The Little Treasury of Leaflets, Vol. II, 1914 Tools
A short prayer said fifteen times a day from the feast of St. Andrew, November 30, until Christmas. The text comes from The Little Treasury of Leaflets, a collection of prayer leaflets approved in Dublin in 1914 and published in America by Benziger Brothers. The prayer greets the hour of Christ’s birth and asks God, for the sake of that hour, to hear your request.

Say the prayer fifteen times each day, from November 30 until Christmas Eve. Keep your request in mind as you pray. The prayer is the same every day.
The prayer
Hail and Blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.
The leaflet prints this note under the prayer: “It is piously believed, whoever recites the above prayer fifteen times a day, from the Feast of St. Andrew (30th Nov.), until Christmas, will obtain what is asked.”
A pious belief is not a promise. When a reader of The Sign sent in this prayer in January 1929, the editor answered that placing one’s confidence in the number of times a prayer is said is a form of superstition.
