- Prayers for
- the souls in purgatory, forgiveness of sins, peace
Master of the Brussels Initials and Associates, Office of the Dead, Hours of Charles the Noble, about 1405. Cleveland Museum of Art.
FROM the depths I have cried to thee.
O Lord, Lord hear my prayer.
Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my petition.
If thou wilt observe iniquities, O Lord, Lord who shall sustain it?
Because with thee there is mercy; and for thy law, I have expected thee, O Lord.
My soul has expected in his word; my soul has hoped in the Lord.
From the morning watch, even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy, and with him a plentiful redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Eternal rest give to them, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine on them.
LET US PRAY.
O GOD, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, give to the souls of thy servants departed the remission of all their sins; that by pious supplications they may obtain the pardon they ever desired: who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.
Give them, O Lord, eternal rest.
And let thy light shine upon them for ever.
May they rest in peace.
