The Stations of the Cross

This holy devotion commemorates the various incidents that occurred during our Lord’s painful journey with His cross from the tribunal of Pilate to the hill of Calvary.

First Station

Jesus is Condemned to Death

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee.

R. Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

(Repeat V. and R. at each station)

Reflection: Jesus when condemned is silent. How do I act when censured?

Kneel, and say after each reflection:

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father, etc.

Second Station

Jesus Bears His Cross

Do I bear my crosses in union with the cross of Christ?

Third Station

Jesus Falls the First Time

It is the weight of my sins that caused Jesus to fall.

Fourth Station

Jesus Meets His Afflicted Mother

Is my devotion to the Mother of Christ all it should be?

Fifth Station

The Cyrenian Helps Jesus with His Cross

Unlike Simon I am unwilling to bear the cross with Jesus.

Sixth Station

Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

By assisting the poor I can help and console Jesus in His suffering.

Seventh Station

Jesus Falls the Second Time

It is my repeated sins that caused Jesus again to fall.

Eighth Station

Jesus Speaks to the Daughters of Jerusalem

May Jesus give me the grace to weep for my own sins.

Ninth Station

Jesus Falls the Third Time

Give me the grace, O Lord, to correct my evil habits which cause my many falls into sin.

Tenth Station

Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

Strip me, O Lord, of attachment to the things of earth.

Eleventh Station

Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

May my heart be nailed to the cross of Jesus so as never to be separated from His love.

Twelfth Station

Jesus Dies on the Cross

Do I try to live for Jesus? He died for me.

Thirteenth Station

Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross

May the Mother of Christ intercede for us in the hour of death.

Fourteenth Station

Jesus is Placed in the Sepulchre

May I die to the world and to myself that I may rise gloriously with Christ.

Here five Our Fathers and five Hail Marys are recited to gain the indulgences.

Thank you.
